Fire safety is a major legal concern
for employers and those responsible for publically accessed
premesis.
The Regulatory Reform [Fire Safety] Order 2005 came into
force on 1st October 2006, and is a complete change to all
preceding fire safety legislation, the largest for 35 years.
The RRO places a responsibility on
management to ensure the fire safety, including the safe
evacuation, of all users of premises. There is a duty to
carry out a Risk Assessment for all buildings except for
small residential dwellings.
It
is important to note that the RRO moves the responsibility
for evacuation away from the fire service to the responsible
person e.g. employer, service provider etc.
All procedures should ensure the safe
evacuation of disabled people, with assistance where
required. Our Fire Safety
for Disabled People takes into consideration all
requirements in relation to the development of fire
procedures and evacuation plans in relation to disabled
people.
